I know I'm supposed to be excited by now. To offer up some sign of confidence or self-doubt or a little blonde-insight.. but I'm deep in one-week-out denial. Like not returning my coach's phone calls deep (hi coach!) There truly may be potential to hurt myself by thinking too hard at this point. When I think about the boredom the bike-dread is overwhelming. If I drown in the swim, my epitaph should read At least she didn't have to ride her bike.
But I am dreaming of that run.. and I know I will get excited about the race when I get off the plane on Wednesday.
I am loading my annual ipod up for Kona. I get a new one each birthday, because I inevitably drown it in sweat by the following September. Or I just run it through the washer/dryer, something even the smartypants at Apple didn't prepare for.
The Kona list in a blob: Move Along - AAR, Kind and Generous - N. Merchant, Burn One Down - B. Harper, This Ain't a Scene It's a GD Arms Race - Fall Out Boy, Unknown Legend - N. Young, Pace is the Trick - Interpol, La Isla Bonita - Madge, Radar Love - Golden Earring, Remember the Name - Fort Minor, Everything - Material Issue, Feel the Pain - Dino Jr., Tomorrow Wendy - Concrete Blonde, Lost - Coldplay
And this one, by The Killers, from the Nike Courage Ad that gives me chicken skin:

Oh man... that add was awesome! Somehow I've never seen it before so thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteGood luck - enjoy KONA!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the video. It's giving me something to motivate me for tomorrow. I'm driving Jesse crazy by playing it over and over while he's trying to sleep!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in Kona!
Good luck! Great Race!
ReplyDeleteAbout 50% of those songs are on my iPod too - even the Dino Jr.! Ooh...and Golden Earring - classic!
GREAT video! LOVE it...
ReplyDeleteokay, la isla bonita, I danced that song in a talent show, you would fricken laugh your @$$ off every time you heard it if you ever saw the routine.
GET ready, that marathon has your name ALL over it!
Safe travels to Kona...
hope you had a fantastic b-day with lots of cake!
ReplyDeletei want to see bree's dance routine, lol. as for the race - a week to go!!! like you, i love the run there and have tried to figure out a way to do it without having to do the bike or the #$%* swim. if i figure out something, i will let you know. in the mean time, you are going to have to crush it.
off to start packing, we leave in 24 hrs.
Thanks for sharing that ad...made me all misty!
ReplyDeleteHave a great race!!
Ha- I am SO with you on yearly the I-pod replacement- nice to hear I'm not alone.
ReplyDeleteWait until you get to Kona- you will rock it- Bike included!
It gives me the chills too. My family thought I was crazy, so I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one.
ReplyDeleteIf it's as windy as it was today you won't be bored on the bike. The crosswinds were making me wish I was a few lbs heavier.
ReplyDeleteGreat video.
WOW, that needs to be viewed more than once. You are going to be just fine, it is the pre-race anxiety that is killing you. Just go with it and once you are rolling it will all work out.
ReplyDeleteLoved the pics of Johnny MAc and the Fed in the Nike piece.
You are going to do great and when it is done, nobody can take it away from you. No matter where you finish.
I hope the wildebeasts and gazelles got away! :) Great add!
ReplyDeleteHey - we all live in the pre-race denial. As soon as the cannon goes off you'll know what to do. And you're doing to do great!
You better get on that bike! Safe travels to Kona. Run like you stole something :)
ReplyDeleteRadar Love, good heavens. I remember in 1976, running a 36-hour relay race on a grass track, sound system based on a reel-to-reel tape player: Radar Love got us through the early morning (2 am or so) hours. One of the great running songs, assuredly.
ReplyDeleteBike boredom ? you can use the bike time to eagerly anticipate the run..
happy travelling..
Oooooh new songs to go look at! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE that ad. I might have to post it on facebook. That was really cool.
I just want to say
a) You're going to be awesome and
b) Think more positively! You won't be bored on the bike! You'll be thinking of too many positive things to be bored! :)
c) Thanks for being honest though because I've still never done an IM and one of the things that keeps me from having Kona dreams is that having been to the Big Island numerous times, I continue to scratch my head in amazement at how people get through that bike from a wind/boredom/omg that is such a long stretch of lava point of view. I just don't know how people do it. I mean, I know it's IRONMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS and you just DO IT (like Nike says), but that doesn't necessarily make it easier?
Anyway, you're going to be great RR!
Thank you for admitting on my blog that you cry before the race. I can understand crying due to fear, but to cry due to the impending bike boredom is too funny! You are such an amazing athlete, I just know that you are going to rock it! Can't wait to spend all day Saturday obsessively tracking you and other folks I know racing Kona.
