Nine years is 3,283 days. It is also the average life-span of a microwave oven or a well cared for guinea pig. Not that I have either. In fact, I don't think I've had a microwave in nine years (they're scary.) Nine years is how much longer righties live than lefties.* Ramsey and I have been married for nine years today. I was 22 at our wedding. Fresh out of college, living on coffee and cowboy killers. Until whoops! parasite. Mostly it is not recommended that one smoke for two, so I took up food. We tell Henry he was the Best. Surprise. Ever. Unless he is antagonizing his siblings, then we tell him he was the Stinkiest. Surprise. Ever. Then he gets mad at me and tells me he is going to go back to where he came from. Whoa. No thanks. If the child had any idea where he came from, I guarantee he would never say that again.
I would share a wedding photo, but I have none. I don't know where they went, we moved too too too many times (nine?) in our first few years. I would say a bunch of cheesy crap about how great it has been, but I'm not really a cheesy crap kind of girl. I would share some marriage wisdom, but really, after nine years, I still don't know diddleysquat. So instead I'll just show you my newlywed newlydad husband with his new namesake.
Happy ninth, Ramsasaurus Ross. I am a lucky duck. We plan to mark the occasion by bribing my sweet, beautiful, sister Celia into baby sitting, stealing me a new IT band at the Bodies Exhibit, and then gettin' us some sushi.
PS. Happy birthday, Mom! See you in a week.
* Note to self: force Sky to use her right hand starting today.
Happy anniversary!!! Hope the sushi was good and you got yourself a few new parts at Bodies.... :)
ReplyDeletecongratulations! Have a great time and celebrate - by the way - LEFTIES are in their "right mind"
ReplyDeleteWill your sister come sit for us tonight for our anniversary? All my sitters are at the beach for the 4th...ack.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Congrats RR! I nearly dropped my coffee when I read about the guinea pig and microwave. HA! You ARE a trooper - 9 years! Woa. I've only know My. Other. Half. for 8. And we're still talkking - so that bodes well. :) Both you and your hubby are hotties - so your kids are lucky with their genes! :)
ReplyDeleteNow I see where your kids get their beautiful eyes from:) Happy 9th....go and have some FUN!!! I have been married for 12years and I am with you.....I don't know "diddleysquat" either :)
ReplyDeleteTell Ramsey he hasn't changed a bit from that photo! Still a keeper!!
ReplyDeleteHappy 9 Rachel! Totally enjoy the day, the date, the time off child-watching, and I will BEG coach about Tinman for you, it'll be my wedding gift to you :)
Oh, I don't know diddly squat either, let's form a club with Mel!
Marriage is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. It's like the ULTRA Ironman that you never stop training for. Ever. You take a couple months off and it bites you in the ass big time. You work hard and there are some worthwhile rewards along the way.
ReplyDeleteWhen the 'new love' phase wears off - which it always does - it's a big reality check about what marriage is, compared to what you thought it would be.
I was at a jewelry shop getting my wedding ring prongs fixed and there was this older lady there who was in getting something done to her wedding ring. I heard the jeweler ask her how long she'd been married... 52 years. Holy crap! So of course I have to ask, "What's your secret?"
I'm expecting some mushy answer about finding the true love of her life, communication, flexibility, honesty, etc. But no, she chuckles... looks me in the eye... and says, "Honey, you just have to find someone whose flaws you can tolerate forever."
Oprah's not banging down her door for the use of that advice in her latest show on relationships, but maybe there's some truth to it. But hell, I don't know diddlysquat either! ;)
Hope you guys had some good quality time for your anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteBut please don't give Mike more ammo against my lefty-ness -- especially while taking away my "you're so old" ammo! :)
Tell Sky lefties are smarter anyways ;)
Rach, Happy 9 years together!! Wow, I am sure that flew by.... and moving 9 times in the first few years is normal ;-) HA! You guys are great! Just come back to CA, please!
ReplyDeleteXO,
E
Happy anniversary. I still don't know what I'm doing after 19 years. That goes to show you are definitely on the right track! No need to thank me ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I'm so glad to hear that you smoked... I feel like such an outcast that I did once upon a time!! Of course I'm glad you quit too! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have such a pretty family! Adam and I celebrate our 9th in a couple of months and he says I change every few years, so that just helps keep things interesting. Never do hope to have everything all figured out! :)
Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to know that info about right handers!
