Just another trainer ride..

on the water!
(I know what you frozen-tundra mainland people are thinking. Stop calling me that, it's mean.)

I'm the one on the left (dork commuter backpack hooked to the front wheel) in all black and then there's Katie, Brent, Ryan, Felipe, Joy & Leann, and the line went down at least ten people further. Alika snapped this with his camera for me just as the sun disappeared tonight at Kakaako Waterfront Park, during a break between intervals. It was an hour of intervals, a 15 minute run, another 15 of intervals, and then another run. But one really can't bitch about the trainer with this view. The Thompsons and Sharpie are having basement trainer parties, after all. People were riding shoulder high waves right in front of us, a pod of dolphins rolled through, and barges were streaming into Pearl Harbor as the sunset.

Tomorrow is run commute day. Last Friday I took a couple of minutes off of my time and got the pace down into the 7:20/mile range, bouncy backpack and all. Tomorrow, faster! I bike commuted every day this week and even had some company. And I finally got in the pool again. I'm not that uncoordinated, I'm not that sore.. I'm just slow. Grandma-who-doesn't-want-to-get-her-hair-wet sloooow. It's fugly.

On Saturday I'm helping lead the Lululemon run group, Ala Moana Park at 8:30 am, if anyone wants to come out and play.. Or as Beth says at her local lulu, come out and chase chicks!

  4. You athletes living in Hawaii are basically just un-likeable right now. I don't care how cute your kids are or how witty your blog is. We finally got above 0 yesterday and your are riding your bike overlooking a view of the beach. Yep, un-likeable.

  5. LUCKY I was all excited because it going to be above 40 degrees here today and I am going to get in an extra run. Then I read your post and my excitement has waned somewhat. But it will still be sunny and I will keep an eye out for snow dolphins (kidding - there is no such thing as a snow dolphin.)

  6. I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it. Roadies won't believe me if I told them people were riding trainers outside, short sleeves, on the beach, etc. Oh the humanity!!!!!

  10. Rachel I want to be there. If I could get views like that from a trainer I would never get off. Instead it is the basement wall all freakin cold winter long! You are amazing how you do it all!

  11. Just as I was about to yell out WTF!!! as I saw that your post and pic... I saw you were already rebuffing my inner thoughts about the names I was calling you! ;)

Wishing I could be a mouse in the corner (scratch that: slacker by the pool) at camp... just need to find out how to duplicate myself for work and get a free plane ticket. Working on it!

  16. Funny, my first thought was, "Where's Maggs?". Then I remembered her pizza purchase.
I won't call you any mean names, but you're going to have to adopt me. That's all.

  18. Wow - that is BEAUTIFUL! Way to go on getting back into the pool. For some reason I have a hard time believing that you could be "fugly".

  20. I'm surprise you even own trainers in Hawaii. I hear you though. I used to live by myself on an island off the New Zealand coast. There was nothing there that resembled a road and I would put a rusty old mtn bike on a trainer on the lighthouse pad and just watch the ocean 200 meters below. It was hard to beat! Now I'm getting nostalgic . . .
